My friend Vaneetha and I have known each other for 32 years. We met in college at THE University of Virginia. We were in the same Christian fellowship group and sorority, and we were roommates for a year. Vaneetha was a bridesmaid in my wedding; she is at least partially responsible for my husband and me beginning to date.
Through the 32 years I have known Vaneetha, I’ve often said that she is one of the most spiritually influential people in my life, and that has only become more true as the years have gone by. If you’ve read any of her blog posts, and I encourage you to, you know that she has suffered the death of a child, abandonment by her husband, and has a debilitating, irreversible disease¦ just about everything that most women fear. Yet through it all, Van’s life message is and has been: God is good, He is faithful, and nothing compares to walking with Him.
For the past 15 years, our families have gotten together at least once a year. One of the fringe benefits of our college friendship has been seeing our daughters become good friends. They’re the kind of friends who drive 3 1/2 hours to help you move into a college dorm room or to attend a good-bye party before you leave for Spain for a semester. Family visits usually include a trip to Busch Gardens, a delicious dinner out, dark chocolate, ice cream, and lots of long conversations.
They also include pictures! I think Vaneetha MIGHT like pictures even more than I do. She insists that our annual photo session is a highlight of her year! WOW! Anyone else out there feel the same about your Melanie Wasko Photography photo shoot?
Here are some of my favorites from our most recent session.
