Saturday was the 2nd Annual Paint Wars FUNdraiser hosted by Melanie Wasko Photography, and it was a great time!
Eight teams with a total of 70 students from 16 different high schools converged in Chesapeake, VA to compete in a series of paint war games. Each team paid an entry fee, and the winning team won 100% of funds left over after event costs to donate to a charity of their choosing.
This year’s charities were: Sanyu Babies’ Home, HOPE for the D.R., St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, UNICEF–Syrian Refugee relief, Make A Wish, Shule Foundation, His Hands Taiwan, and the American Cancer Society.
Schools represented were: Atlantic Shores, Bayside, Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School, Centerville Homeschool Academy, Cox, First Colonial, Grafton, Grassfield, Jamestown, Kempsville, Landstown, Norfolk Academy, Ocean Lakes, Oscar Smith, Princess Anne, and Tallwood.
Competition was fierce, but three games and 12 gallons of paint later, Team 6 won the day! $400 will be donated in their name to UNICEF to help Syrian refugees.
I love this event. I love that these high school students are fun, friendly, and fight to win, but I love even more that they wanted to raise money for something they cared about. What a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
I think I’ll do it again next May! Who’s up for #MWPaintWars2018?
Thank you to my eight team captains for recruiting your awesome friends to play: Ada, Joe, Virginia, Samantha, Rebecca, Cheyenne, Maria, and Madison. You’re the BEST!
